Nugget Lake

N4351 County Road HH

Now part of Nugget Lake County Park, this dammed recreation lake covers a stretch of Plum Creek, where in the 1860s gold dust was found. The discovery led to the formation of the Rock Elm Gold Flour Mining Company. Geologic formations from an ancient meteor impact in the area have attracted mining companies searching for precious stones and metals. The gravels of Plum Creek are said to contain small gemstones such as topaz and garnet.
